The ultimate motorsport camera by AiM with bullet cam
Configurable overlays
The new SmartyCam 3 GP camera has been designed for motorsport with a single purpose: PROVIDING GREAT VIDEOS INCLUDING ALL INFORMATION YOU NEED
SmartyCam 3 GP camera overlays all the data from both GPS and AiM loggers connected to your ECU.
SmartyCam GP HD is a quite versatile system, easy to install on cars and bikes: robust and reliable, it has been engineered to withstand the extreme working conditions typical of motorsports.
STG recommends the 84° camera lens for optimal video capture for track riding & other motorcycle-related activities. The camera is available with a 2 or 4 meter CAN cable, which interfaces with your AiM Solo/2/DL lap timer/
Real time data overlayed on videos
SmartyCam GP HD overlays all the data you need from different sources. From GPS: track map and vehicle position, as well as speed, lap and split times. From AiM loggers connected to your ECU: RPM, throttle, engaged gear, acceleration, temperatures, pressures and - in presence of additional sensors - their values. All these info will be overlayed on videos in each single point of the track. Here is just an example among the many available:
SmartyCam GP HD uses Race Studio 3, the powerful software which allows to configure all details of your videos and to get plenty of fun and information out of them.
You can configure your overlays in a virtually infinite variety of modes: add your logo and the track map, and choose your graphic objects from a list of pre-determined sets with same layout or even single objects from different sets. Your videos will be truly "yours" in all details, from the data to their graphic layouts.
The video of a whole session, once downloaded on your PC, can now be split - with a simple click - in individual videos of each lap: so that you can simultaneously watch two of them and check where you were faster or slower. The same operation can be performed with any SmartyCam GP HD video recorded on the same track: you will be able to compare your best lap with your friends personal best!
The new SmartyCam GP HD has been designed integrating the direct connection to the CAN-bus line of the ECU and it will allow to use the can-bus communication protocols included in our official database, or manage the customized can-bus protocols. This new feature has been designed particularly for those vehicle like Formula cars or race bikes, where the available space to fit things in is minimum.
We have introduced new solution in order to make all the connections stronger and more protected by electromagnetic noise, as a new connection cable for the bullet , now more protected, and a stronger filtering on the power connection of the SmartyCam GP HD.
You are on the starting grid, ready to sprint, your adrenaline reaching the climax: the last thing you can worry about is... switching on the camera. You have other things to worry about.
That is why SmartyCam GP HD can be switched on/off automatically by the logger it is connected to: simply decide after what period of non-activity the camera will have to switch-off. Both operations can also be carried out using the keyboard, if you prefer.
Recording can also be started/stopped automatically or via keyboard: the camera will start recording when the speed or RPM threshold is exceeded. You simply decide how long after dropping below the selected threshold the video will automatically stop.
Engine rumble causes vibrations, which are not a good thing for video recording. Never again will you experience that seasick "wave effect" you get when watching videos recorded by a generic camera when the bike is screaming at high RPM. SmartyCam GP HD has been designed for that environment and for those vibrations. "Wave effect" is just a memory.
Unlike generic multipurpose cameras, SmartyCam GP HD has been designed to avoid the problem of image distortion, thanks to the innovative Global Shutter CMOS sensor. The camera shutter captures the entire image at the same time, not "pixel by pixel" like traditional sensors. The result is that images are captured at once and are not affected by the vibrations that happen on a racing vehicle, which create the so-called "wave effect".
Generic action cameras are designed to record videos in many different situations, such as skiing or surfing, but in motorsports they tend to record misleading videos. Those cameras straighten out the view ahead: when on track, the corners simply disappear. So, when you wish to check your track performance, those videos are useless, because the images are distorted. Being a camera dedicated to motorsports, SmartyCam GP HD features lenses specifically designed to avoid distortion.
The wide SmartyCam GP HD 240x320 pixel TFT color display makes installation and aiming very easy.
HD cameras competition is focused on the highest pixel number. The result is that their video files are far too large, taking too much memory. SmartyCam GP HD videos have the same quality as other HD cameras but their files are smaller because the H264 compression system parameters have been optimized to a perfect balance between video quality and file size.
You can choose among three video file quality levels: one-hour recording takes 4GB (high quality), 2GB (normal) or 1.5GB (low).
Files are stored on SD cards: with current SD cards reaching 128GB capacity, you can record more than 30 hours of high-quality videos without changing the card.
Frail things have a bad time on track. An on-board camera designed for motorsports must guarantee great resistance against the extreme working conditions typical of track racing and against the most adverse weather, such as: strong and prolonged vibrations, storms, continuous rain, and extreme high and low temperatures. That is why SmartyCam GP HD is made in machinery molded aluminum.
