Alpinestars Nucleon KR-3 Back Protector Review and Sizing Info from STG

WOW is where I am going to start. I have worn a lot of different back protectors over the years now and this one has moved to the top of my list. The base material Alpinestars uses for the Nucleon KR-3 Back Protector softens as it warms which allows it to move with you so well you forget it is there. The waist belt is adjustable to raise or lower the protector on your body, the straps are adjustable and removable (I prefer no straps so I take them off) which allows you to dial the fit in. Shields in the kidney/rib area (removable and adjustable) are included and slide over the wasit belt. At first I was sure that I would be taking these off, that all changed once I rode with them in and never felt they were there. This is best back protector I have used thus far and would recommend this to any track rider for sure. - Brian Van

High quality back protector
I'm 5'10, 165lbs, the medium fits great. I love the side protection as well, gives you more sense of security. Another great product from A-stars.

Proven and tested
Product arrived to me in 3 days!!! Just in time for my track day. STG is the goat for all your motorcycle needs. Hardly noticed wearing it under my suit. Fit comfortably and gave me the peace of mind needed in case of an accident.

Great fit
I haven't tested it yet (thankfully) fit is great, heat molds to your body. The rob protectors are great and cannot even feel them once it is on. The elastic waist straps are height adjustable and very secure, can have it tight but still doesnt prevent easy breathing. I have to wear it a little low because of my suit hump. I am 5'9" and 180ish the medium fits great. The shoulder straps are at their full length but that might be because I have to wear it lower. Highly recommend this back protector.

ventilation!
Every back protector I've ever owned was claimed to "flow air to keep you cool". None have ever done that until now. The first thing I noticed heading out on track with this protector was a big cool spot spreading across my back as sweat evaporated! Awesome! Plus, it's comfortable. I'm not convinced about the side armor; more protection is great, and they didn't ever bother me, but they don't really stay in place either, they tend to slide around to the front.

nice, but one caution
I bought this along with an Alpinestars Missile suit. Frankly I did no research to learn if there were different Nucleon models, I had just read in the suit description that it had provisions for interfacing with a Nucleon back protector, and when this KR-3 model was presented as something "frequently purchased along with" the suit, I just bought it. When I had the suit and back protector both in hand though, I couldn't find any way in which they would connect together nor any mention of that in literature for either product. This isn't a big deal for me, as I find having a back protector attached into the leathers makes it harder to get in and out of the suit; I am happy using the protector just strapped around my waist with the shoulder straps removed. I have not ridden in it yet so I can not comment on the extra pieces of side armor but I am happy to have them if they don't get in my way. The protector IS bulkier than my previous Dianese one; takes up more room in the suit. Adjustable waist belt position is a nice touch.

Great fit. Didn’t even know it was there after a couple sessions. If your leathers are tight, that might be different.

Nucleon KR-3 Back Protector
I originally purchased a KR-R protector but had a bit of an issue with it as the button that snapped to the Missile leather suit had a tendency to pop off when I was putting the suit on so I thought I would give the KR-3 a try. I like the shoulder straps and the rib protectors and this fits much better under the suit than the KR-R (both were size Small). Definitely the best back protector that I have owned to date.

Very comfortable
Thing works and feels like a million bucks. The guys at STG were great to work with too. Best buying experience yet, found me a new track gear provider.

Nucleon KR-3
I am surprised how good this back protector feels. Once its warm, I don't even notice it under the suit. That includes the kidney protection! I do recommend putting the protector on a wearing it for 5 to 10 min. before sliding into your suit. Once its warm its surprisingly supple.
