Some protection is better than no protection.
It's cheap, but not what I expected from Alpinestars. I understand it can't be too thick that it won't fit with your race suit. But it's pretty darn thin.

this is a neat add on to the nucleon back protector. you notice it in your suit but once seated you really don't feel it
