1. Better for winter and layers
I commute 70 miles a day in extremely bad traffic in all weather conditions to include rain, ice, and snow. If you own the Tech Air 10 and drive in cold weather the long pants layer is worth having. The original base layer uses shorts which have rubber grips at the end that will ruin long johns, leggings, or anything they rub against. The long layer lets you wear a long base layer underneath for extreme cold or just the Tech 10 layer by itself for mildly cold weather. With Van's super detailed video I can switch between layers in a few minutes. And of course I wash these regularly (please use a laundry bag and dry on the absolute lowest setting).
Just a note for comparison, the Tech Air 10 flows air much better than the Tech Air 5 at highway speeds but is hotter when sitting in traffic. Movement is less restrictive at the chest but more restrictive at the hips if you're wearing two-piece, i.e., pants and a jacket. The Tech Air 10 does take a minute to put on compared to the vest of the Tech Air 5. I have to change anyways when I get to work so this works for me but I wouldn't recommend commuting with the Tech Air 10 unless you are already changing at your destination.
