Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 Airbag System

This airbag fits good and also fits under my alpinestars jacket and RST leather one piece suit. The fit and finish and ease of use is awesome. it is slightly bulkier and heavier than expected but still manageable. The App is the worst it is slow and drops connection constantly. The only thing I will be using the app for is firmware update which is needed to get to Race mode and the app switches the vest from street to strip mode.. good all around protection I hope I never have to use as intended but I do feel safer knowing it is there. Final thought it is not very breathable even though they tout that feature.

I wear a size L Tech Air 5 under a AlpineStars GP Pro V2 size EUR 56 with altered sleeves and leg length. I'm 190lbs 5'9" 101cm chest and a bit of a belly. Low sided turn 7 at NJMP Lightning yesterday. I couldn't tell you when it deployed but it worked a treat. I rolled four times on a cloud, shook the dust off, and got back on the bike. Without the air bag suit I definitely would have had injury to my back and sides and might not have been able to ride off and continue the rest of the event. Feeling some soreness the next day, nothing unacceptable. The fact I have to send it in for weeks to be repaired is the ONLY downside, and why I'm buying a Tech Air Race as well as this unit. I'm converted to airbag suits and never riding without one again. The app can be a problem on SOME Samsung phones. AplineStars needs to resolve the issue, I never got it to work reliably with the S10+, but on an S9 and my S21 Ultra it works perfectly, allowing quick changes between race and street algorithms, firmware updates, and even ride tracking if you are able to keep your phone in your suit pocket close to the bluetooth unit in the Tech Air 5.

I really like the quality of this product. The one thing that a person should be aware of is that the sizing is rather small. I would normally wear an XL motorcycle jacket or even a XL sweat shirt. I ordered Air-5 in that size (XL) and found that it was way too small. I returned the XL and re-ordered in a XXL that has arrived and when I tried it on I found that even tho it does fit it is still too small (I could wear a silk undershirt beneath it but that's all)so I've asked to return the XXL and have re-ordered the Air-5 in a XXXL. Now when ordering please know that I've not only NOT put on weight I've actually lost 10 #'s so these do run quite small and this should be taken into consideration when ordering. This said I also think that considering the safety benefits a person would be crazy not to add these to their riding gear. I consider it along the same level of importance as I do a good quality helmet. Cheers

Easy to understand, operate. Fit is as promised.

I preordered this and received it in early June. I’ve put 1,700 miles with it so far. It’s comfortable to wear and I don’t even notice it. It does block some airflow so it can get hot on a summer day. The app is very primitive. All it does is track distance and everything is in km. Hopefully they upgrade that soon.

Smooth purchase experience With STG. Purchased it based on the fantastic online review on YouTube. I was doubtful with the sizing but it fits perfectly. Iam 6’0” weighing 205 lbs not so athletic with 34-35 inch waist size XL fits just perfect. Iam happy with the purchase and thanks to Brian Van for his fantastic review as usual which helped me buying it easier. I surely recommend it. Compared to the competition I researched almost all the airbag vests available currently for the street and can tell this is the best option available for a street airbag vest at this time. I am 5ft10 200pnds 33waist I bought Xl it was perfect. Its not like I crashed yet so all I can comments on is its nice quality. It has a little weight to it. I wish it breathed a little better for warm weather. But other than that it is easy to charge and it looks well made. The only thing that scary is if you have a false deployment while riding. There is always a chance Alpinestars claims if you're driving crazy it can deploy he stated . Thats why at a track they claim it could deploy unexpectedly for this version. So don't try the track with it. The only negative so far would be its hot to ride with in summer . I will get a different free flowing jacket and see if that helps. I tested this with a normal textile and a leather jack airbag friendly. But as the north gets cold it will then be beneficial.

I have had the Tech Air Race in my Missile Suit for several years now. Had it deploy once during a street lowside and it did the job as advertised. The problem with that vest is that it needs a proprietary suit or Jacket. This vest allows me to ride with my Aerostich suit and still have the protection and peace of mind of a Tech Air Vest. Great! The unit is simple to initialize, and it seems to have fantastic run time. Only one complaint for which I removed one star on the rating. The app is very primitive and could be better for such a premium product. The ride tracking part of the app is inferior in functionality to many free apps out there. Besides that, I highly recommend this vest to save you from possible injury. Alpinestars needs to work on a system that also protects the hips. Wearing bulky hip protection is an impediment to flexibility on the bike, but needed to protect from a crash. An airbag system that is low profile and would protect the hips would be a game changer.
