Replacement link
I ordered a spare master link because one of the o-rings on my chain has a piece sticking out. It’s not the entire o-ring but just a little hair of rubber. The chain only has about 4k on it so I figured if it got any worse I’d change out the link with a master link. Definitely wouldn’t do this with a clip style link but I would have no issue running an entire chain made of master links if they were all riveted correctly.

Master Link
I ordered an extra master link with my ERV7 chain. I’ve riveted many rivet style master links in my day, and sometimes, even with perfect technique and tools, you get a rivet pin that splits or cracks. Doesn’t happen too much anymore since the alloys they use are better than decades past, but for a few extra bucks, it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
