Annoying glare from bright sunlight is not only tiring; it may diminish your view significantly, eliminating contrast and creating potentially hazardous riding conditions. Solution: Pinlock's brand new Overlay. The Overlay makes use of advanced photochromatic technology, integrating into an innovative external visor concept. The Overlay Lens changes from clear to dark smoke in a matter of seconds, depending on light conditions.

The technology of the Overlay utilizes a UV-sensitive photochromatic film sandwiched between two premium quality polycarbonate layers. These layers are treated with a special anti-scratch coating without any UV blockers. The Overlay is mounted on the specially developed Pinlock Tear-Off Pins (included) that accommodate both the Overlay on the outside and the Pinlock anti-fog insert lens on the inside of the shield. This concept offers the best of both worlds: perfect anti-fog and anti-glare properties.

    Transitional Lenses

Had my first ride in the sun and this Overlay Lens worked great. Although a more expensive and labor intensive install, I am very satisfied with this upgrade. I almost went with the Photochromatic Insert, but reviews of the UV protection from the Visor inhibiting the performance of that option made me reconsider.

Hazardous and a waste of money.

I knew it wouldn't be as dark as my smoke visor, but mine doesn't even appear to transition. On top of that, it fogs up like crazy. Headlights/Christmas lights and street lights cause a halo effect which turns into a glare. That's probably from my astigmatism, but I don't have any of these issues with my regular pinlock.

HJC HJ-26 Photochromatic Sun Reactive Overlay Lens

Posted by Danny on 26th Jun 2020

My one complaint about the HJC RPHA 11 Pro helmet is that there is no Transitions shield available for it. One of the things I love about my Bell Star is that it has a Transitions shield which means one lens. The fewer lenses the better, right? Since I like the sun reactive shield so much I bought this for my HJC helmet. I peeled the protective film off my new HJC helmet and put this on first thing. I have never used pinlock system before but it's pretty easy to figure out. There are little knobs on either side of the helmets shield that turn. Just below the knurled knobs are cams that move as you turn the knobs. turn them so they are closest to each other, and put the holes in the overlay over the knobs then turn so the cams tension the overlay against the shield. There is a (silicone?) bead all the way around the overlay that (I think) prevents it from laying directly on the shield. Even with this second lens, optics were still very good except I found the bead around the edge somewhat distracting. It darkens in sunlight but not as much as the Transitions shield on my Bell Star. For that reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5.
