    Michelin Power 5 Front

Posted by Vernon Lux on 2nd Aug 2023

I've used Michelin products since the early 2000s....both on my street bikes and on all three Track bikes that I owned. This Power 5 front went on a Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+ instead of the "normal" ST type tire. Grip is the most important factor for me, vs high mileage on a tire. I'm sure that this won't perform quite as well as some of the track/race Michelins that I've used in the past, but then again, this is not being used as a track bike. I still love twisty roads and the high lean angle of cornering, so that is my reason for the Power 5 vs. the Road 5 or Road 6. I just came back from my first ride on the new front and I'm very please with the "stick", right out of the box. Obviously no mileage results yet, as it is still brand new with 150 miles on it.

Excellent tire so far: grip, profile, feel, durability are top-notch!

So far I've only taken a 100-mile scrub-in ride but I'm very impressed. I've ridden on Pilot Powers & 2CTs for years, then tried another brand but they barely lasted 1,000 miles. I wanted to try these Power 5s and I'm definitely glad I did! The first thing I noticed is the neutral profile that neither "falls in" (like Pilot Powers) or makes you work to turn. These tires simply do what you want without you thinking about it. I was very cautious & gradual while initially scrubbing in these tires but they never gave me any warnings or slips during that process. Once I started leaning and pushing they gave great confidence, feedback and no second-thoughts. I checked them after ~40 miles and although I had scrubbed them to the edge I wasn't totally sure because they showed almost no wear at all. I went ahead with the rest of the day's ride at a fast pace and even when I ended my ride and inspected my tires there was virtually no sign of wear. I am very impressed so far! I've tried other tire brands that gave similar performance and feel but showed noticeable wear under the same conditions. I may have found my new ideal tire for non-race use! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND these Michelin Power 5 tires!
