MWR really outdid themselves with this filter!
Always on the hunt for more power and protection to keep the Factory Racing teams worldwide happy, MWR discovered that on most of the “big 1000cc bikes” the OE filter surface was simply too small, and that regardless of which filter you install, you always have a kind of restriction (a bottleneck, basically).
The MWR “R” filter has consistently offered the best power overall compared with all other aftermarket sports filters, but now with the cooperation of several top teams (Kawasaki (KHI), MV Agusta, and other WSBK and MotoGP teams (that due to contractual agreements must remain nameless) they have developed a new style of airfilter called simply WSBK that increases the filter surface enormously.
On the BMW S1000RR the Surface area is increased by over 50%, on the GSXR 1000, 1199 & R1 the increase is 90-100% !!!
More / bigger surface area means less restriction and better protection, but the real secret of the new WSBK filters is that it uses two different kinds of foam materials. The part where the logo is printed is foam material used for our roadbikes (more dense), the rest is the foam material for the full racefilters (less dense), placed to create the same effect as the splitter-plate on the “HE” & “R” filters.
Tests up to now show average gains of at least 6.5HP over the MWR “R” filters.
The WSBK filters are currently in use by the following top level teams and riders:
WSBK Champion Tom Sykes ( 2 years in a row now) and Jonny Rhea on the Kawasaki ZX10R, 2014 World Endurance SBK Championship winning team of Yamaha GMT 94, MV Agusta World Superbike team, Ryuichi Kiyonari (BSB), IOM TT Winner Micheal Dunlop on the BMW S1000RR, AMA Superbike team TPL Corse (Ducati), Double 899 Cup Champions (BSB) Carl Cox/P&H Motorcycles and Dani Rivas (CEV Superbikes, BMW), BMW Motorrad Italia with Sylvain Barrier, and several more that we can't legally name.
