Rain or shine, this shield has the perfect tint. I don't have to worry about switching from my clear shield to my tinted one anymore. It's a little pricey but totally worth it!

It is a great thing when your face shield automatically darkens in the sun and goes back to clear indoors or at night. It's very cool and solves a real problem. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because one, it is too expensive. I see reviews from the past where they complain about it being $179. Well now it is $199 which is a little bit ridiculous. I feel like $150 would still be expensive but reasonable for what this does. The second reason for 4 stars is that it does not darken as much as I would like in direct sunlight. I do not know if that is a function of the limits of this technology or if that is to comply with some arbitrary laws and regulations in some country somewhere or if it is just a choice they made for other reasons, but I would like it to go a few shades darker in direct sunlight. For the price it should. The third reason it gets 4 stars is because this face shield will "wear out" and become less functional over time. I think they recommend replacing it every few years. Ok, again, for the price they are asking it should last longer. It would be different if it was less expensive. So yes it is awesome and I'm still glad I bought it and I knew all these things going into the purchase, but that doesn't change these facts. My entire helmet (Nolan N87 w/ graphic) before this cost less than this face shield and it is a nice helmet completely made in Italy with no Chinese parts whatsoever that came with a pinlock and drop down visor. It was a great deal for $186 but that highlights the main problem with this Transitions face shield, it costs too much considering the other two problems. But I wanted a SHOEI and my other option for darkening face shield was a BELL and yes that would have been cheaper but I think I made the right decision.

Great addition for a new RF 1200. Was a little hesitant to purchase due to the price … after using the shield, worth the price!

In most respects, this shield works really well- in bright daylight and at nighttime, the tinting is just about right. For me, the problem is during foggy or rainy daylight: too dark! Because this shield darkens in response to UV (rather than visible light), it can darken significantly on a cloudy, rainy day. How dark? On a rainy-day ride, I looked in my rear-view mirror while sitting at a stop-light and I could not see my face through the shield. Riding in the rain is bad enough already without having my vision further reduced by a darkened shield. If you ride in the rain, keep your clear shield on hand. You may prefer it to the Transitions shield in some conditions. As for time-to-transition, it's usually fine. Just a few seconds in most situations. The one exception is going from a parking-structure into bright sunlight. Again, because this shield darkens to UV, it will go totally clear in most parking structures, regardless of the amount of artificial light. Riding out into bright sunlight can require some heavy squinting for almost a minute. 90% of the time, this shield is awesome! Just be prepared for certain conditions that can be challenging due to the nature of the technology.

I have just used this for one day and I can't believe I have not pulled the trigger on photochromatic before!!! The transition takes about 45-60 seconds in clear weather, but the craziest thing is that you don't notice one bit that you are shaded. I have to keep checking my mirrors to make sure, but this thing views like it is clear when it is fully shaded in direct AZ sun! The transition is seamless to the rider and I LOVE that. Also, this shield has REALLY great anti fog properties. I don't have the internal guard on and I was trying to fog it up and couldn't do it intentionally. Initially I thought the price tag would deter me, but I will not ride in anything but photochromatic shields now. Do yourself a favor and just pull the trigger on this. You won't regret it!!!
